Watch now: GFC’s Press Conference Calling for Urgent Divestment from False Solutions

5 June 2023

As negotiators gather in Bonn, Germany for the Climate Change Conference (SB58) from June 5-15, the Global Forest Coalition (GFC) and member organizations organised a press conference on how the corporate co-opting of global climate policy is leading to inequitable policy and finance flows to false solutions and how these are being pushed into the UNFCCC agenda. As the IPCC reports show, these approaches – such as geoengineering, monoculture tree plantations, bioenergy and other market-based approaches, including carbon offset schemes – are failing to curb greenhouse gas emissions and imposing rights violations on disenfranchised and local communities, including Indigenous Peoples and women in all their diversities.

Speakers outlined GFC’s new campaign to demand divestment from these false solutions in support of gender-just and rights-based approaches to the climate crisis and genuine pathways to limiting global warming to 1.5, securing a liveable and sustainable future for all.
