A new study and film from Bread for the World explores the issue of advocating for land rights in the context of climate change.
The film portrays a community in Papua New Guinea that has engaged in a carbon project and had disappointing experiences. The film also portrays the case of a community in Indonesia: after having achieved a secure land title for their customary land, the Indigenous community has started to reforest the area and thus makes considerable contributions to mitigating the climate crisis.
The study, available to download here, aims to further raise the awareness of Brot für die Welt partners and other interested groups and organizations on the impacts that climate action can have on land and on the communities that live on the land – very often without secure land tenure and thus facing an increased risk of losing their land. In line with the online discourse, the study presents various entry points for advocating for land rights of IPs and LCs in the context of climate change and equips readers with further reading materials to further deepen their knowledge on the issue.
