Start Global Forum for Life and Environmental and Social Justice:

(Cancun, December 5, 2010) An idea champion during the opening and development of work during the first day of the Global Forum for Life and Environmental and Social Justice “that La Via Campesina and allied organizations make in their camp Cancun: it is necessary derail markets REDD carbon and governments seek to legitimize the COP16.

The conclusion is that the program Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation does not significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions but it opens the door to privatization of land, rewards those who pollute and undermines national sovereignty and survival of indigenous communities.

It is very unfortunate, “said Alberto Gomez Flores, a representative of La Via Campesina North America Region, the area of United Nations climate change has become a platform for legitimate business strategies of the multinationals.

“Multinationals will benefit from a growing number of compensation mechanisms for carbon sequestration, which are new ways for multinational companies to expand and consolidate its control over water, territory, and seeds.”

“We came to report that carbon markets are false solutions and many governments are accommodating to that, do not want commitments to its people. Our job is to derail the carbon markets. That’s what we come, “said Gomez.

For its part, the welcome message, Olegario Carrillo said “can not qualify unless irresponsible, but not just call it criminal, the attitude of those who promote these schemes of privatization, commercialization of the world, forests and atmosphere we just get closer and closer to the abyss. ”

From here we can see on the summit that the thick haze fleet of transnational interests. Rich countries and their clients are trying to give false legitimacy card solutions, such as REDD, agreed Carrillo, national leader of the UNORCA.

“We came here to denounce the governments of the world, seeking to enhance their projects secret from the people” turn Magdiel said Sanchez, the National Liberation Movement.

We have the same message: we do not want the false solutions to be presented by the COP16, we do not REDD, we do not want to continue to poison with lies nor false solutions, we have said and heard in each of the points touched by the caravans, It runs through the country found the environmental and social devastation of Mexico, said Octavio Rosas Landa, National Assembly of People Affected Environment.

“At COP 16 will only want to make a big deal of the climate crisis, meanwhile the people are still sick, are still dying from these perverse policies and the operation and performance of these transnational corporations are taking over air, soil, water, forests, seeds and all the commons that are part of the heritage of humanity “he said.

In this context, Rosas Landa simulation called the programs the federal government is applying in the country, since it will fight global warming or the climate crisis. Regarding the REDD proposal stated that the federal government tries to control the green areas affecting the most vulnerable groups.

Thus started the Global Forum for Life and Environmental and Social Justice “with the participation of about 1500 people over 80 organizations in Latin America and the world, of which a thousand accompanied the caravans that traveled 17 states Mexico.
