Webinar: The Power of Indigenous Women in Protecting Forests and Biodiversity

Indigenous women are frontline and vital actors in the preservation of traditional knowledge and biodiversity worldwide. Indigenous Peoples represent less than 5 per cent of the global population but protect 80% of the world’s biodiversity. The loss of the world’s forests has severe impacts on their political, cultural, and economic ways of life. The innovations, practices, cosmovisions, cultures and identities of Indigenous Peoples are essential in our struggle to protect the earth and its forests.

On the  International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, join us for this unique online gathering to affirm Indigenous Peoples’ rights to land, self-determination, health, free, prior and informed consent, cultural traditions, and customs, and to recognise their role in protecting and caring for the natural world. The event will encourage the exchange of knowledge and strengthen Indigenous women’s leadership in community conservation and traditional knowledge as an effective response to forest and biodiversity degradation.
