11 June 2026 | 12.00 NOON CEST
At the UN climate negotiations SB64 in Bonn, civil society organizations, grassroots movements, and climate justice campaigners from across Africa, Asia, and Latin America will come together to reiterate the rejection of risky and speculative geoengineering technologies as a false solution and dangerous distraction from real climate action. These risky, deliberate, large-scale technological schemes aim to manipulate the Earth’s systems, with the aim to temporarily mask some of the effects of climate change.
They will expose how geoengineering is being advanced through climate policy spaces, particularly via Article 6 which gives entry to carbon markets. Speakers will highlight how these technologies are being positioned in the Global South as a “climate solution,” while in reality they deepen inequality and risks to ecosystems and communities. Panelists will draw attention to the colonial dimensions of geoengineering showing how these approaches reproduce historical patterns of exploitation, turning lands, waters, and skies in the Global South into sites for experimentation and control.
Join us to hear why global civil society is pushing back and demanding a stop to geoengineering.
