Press Conference: COP 16: What’s Really at Stake – Voices from the Ground on the Threat of False Solutions
Wednesday 23 October, 13:00 – 13:30 Colombia Standard Time (UTC-5)
Live Webcast Available
As COP 16 negotiations unfold, join experts and community leaders for an in-depth briefing on the biggest threats facing global efforts to address the biodiversity crisis. Panellists will dissect the risks posed by ineffective biodiversity offsetting and other market-based mechanisms that undermine real conservation efforts, including a gender lens. With the future of global biodiversity at stake, this press conference will highlight the urgent need for negotiators to reject these false solutions and instead embrace transformative and gender-responsive approaches that prioritize ecological integrity, uphold Indigenous and community rights, and ensure a just transition for nature and people.
