People’s Solutions to Save the Planet

Tuesday, October 22, 10:30 am – 11:15 am Colombia Standard Time / 15:30 – 16:15 UTC

Join us for an engaging side event that highlights the crucial role of women, youth, Indigenous Peoples, and local and Afro-descendant communities in halting biodiversity loss and advancing transformative action. Grounded in the principles of Decision 15/10, adopted at COP 15, this dialogue offers a platform for grassroots organizations to share their strategies for protecting biodiversity and ecosystems, with a special focus on gender justice, rights-based approaches, and the diverse worldviews of our communities.

Attendees will gain valuable insights into the challenges and resistance strategies within Indigenous territories and homelands, including those posed by deforestation, unsustainable livestock production, and extractive industries. This event will also explore how real, community-led solutions can contribute to the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and enhance biodiversity and ecosystem functions.

Key Objectives:

  • Promote shared learning and collective action to integrate gender justice and rights-based approaches into biodiversity conservation.
  • Advocate for the vital contributions of women, youth, Indigenous Peoples, and local communities in addressing biodiversity loss.
  • Examine the gender impacts of false solutions driving deforestation and biodiversity loss.
  • Raise awareness of grassroots solutions that can restore biodiversity and ecosystems.

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear directly from communities on the frontlines of biodiversity conservation!
