Demystifying False Climate Solutions and their Impacts: Regional Workshops
Many proposals, pledges and solutions have been put forth, but as we know, “not all that glitters is gold.” These ideas, cleverly couched in climate jargon, often represent the interests of fossil fuel companies, agri-business, industrial agriculture, bioenergy, and multinational giants. To demystify these false solutions, we must make sure that frontline communities, Indigenous Peoples, women, youth, rights groups and climate justice movements are well aware of what they are, how they are presented, and what their impacts and implications are.
We are organizing a series of three regional virtual workshops with allies and member groups of the Global Forest Coalition to take a deep look at issues such as land-based carbon offsets and trading, net zero promises, large-scale monoculture plantations and bioenergy. We will demystify them and offer a critical analysis of these false climate solutions from a regional perspective. We will also showcase real solutions to climate change, deforestation and biodiversity loss that are gender transformative and community-led as viable and real alternatives and solutions instead.
We are happy to invite you all to join us for the three workshops, which will take place on the following dates:
