COP29 Press Conference: REDD+: Perpetuating Deforestation and Rights Violations

A joint press conference by WALHI, Acción Ecológica, Indigenous Environmental Network (IEN) and the Global Forest Coalition (GFC) during the 19th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Speakers will explain problems with REDD+ , a so-called “nature-based solution” that in fact perpetuates deforestation and human rights violations for Indigenous Peoples and local communities, women in all their diversity, and other vulnerable groups. GFC will present a new briefer on this issue with examples of failed REDD+ programs in Indonesia, Colombia, Uganda, and more.
