COP29, referred to as the “Finance COP,” has earned a new moniker as the “False Solutions COP.” From the outset, the conference has been flooded with narratives promoting carbon markets and other market-driven mechanisms. The Presidency faced backlash for fast-tracking the adoption of these measures while sidelining the voices and the solutions developed by communities on the frontlines of climate change impacts.

This press conference will highlight the need to shift the conversation to real, peoples-centred, rights-based, and gender-just climate actions and solutions to confront the systemic roots of the climate crisis. Speakers will discuss the demands of communities for real solutions to the climate crisis and how movements can advance these demands at COP29 and beyond.
