West African skill-share on Gender-sensitive Community Forest Conservation and Restoration and bioenergy strategy meeting

18 Mar 2019 to 21 Mar 2019
Lome, Togo

The objectives of the meetings are to enhance the capacity and knowledge of our West African members, partners and allies in the following fields:

  • gender-responsive forest conservation and restoration approaches, that is, initiatives that fully take into account the rights, role, needs and aspirations of women;
  • genuinely community-based forest conservation and restoration approaches, that is, approaches that are truly participatory and driven by the rights, needs and aspirations of communities, and build on their traditional knowledge and customary practices.
  • the distinction between forest restoration and monoculture tree plantations establishment, and threats to gender-responsive, community-based forest conservation and restoration in general
  • trends and potential impacts of the expansion of wood-based bioenergy, including in particular for meeting urban and industrial demands.A detailed agenda of the meetings and logistical information will be sent in the coming weeks.Contact persons: Kwami Kpondzo Africa Regional Focal Person of GFC, Les Amis de la Terre Togo Also on behalf of Simone Lovera, Global Forest Coalition: kwadodzi@yahoo.fr
