Job Roles: Various communications-related roles on a freelance basis, including editors, graphic designers, interpreters, translators, and video producers.

Job Type: Ad hoc, short-term assignments on an external services contract. 

Duration: For a period of two years, with a possibility of extension.

Remuneration: 260 Euro per day (8 hours of work).

Location: Remote. Access to a fast and reliable internet connection is required.

The Global Forest Coalition (GFC) is an international coalition of NGOs and Indigenous Peoples’ Organisations advocating for the conservation and restoration of forest ecosystems, through defending and promoting respect for the rights, territories, traditional knowledge and sustainable livelihoods of the Indigenous Peoples and local communities that coexist with them. GFC promotes rights-based, gender-just and socially-just policies to address the main drivers of forest loss. We are a feminist organization that strongly supports gender justice and works with feminist movements around the world.

GFC is currently looking for support for its communications team in the form of ad hoc, short-term assignments varying between a few hours (e.g. interpretation for webinars) to a few days or weeks (e.g. editing support or translation of longer reports/publications, or video production). 

 

  1. Editors (English, Spanish, French, Russian)

The job

  • Copy editing or proofreading reports, briefing papers and other publications and materials written by authors from different countries, for local, national and international audiences.
  • Occasional writing of additional material.

Main requirements:

  • Professional editor with at least five years of experience in editing materials written by authors from different countries in different styles of English, for local, national and international audiences.
  • Basic knowledge of and affinity with forests, biodiversity, Indigenous rights, climate justice, community conservation, and gender-just and feminist approaches.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of Spanish, Russian, French or another major language is an advantage.
  • Experience with working for a multicultural non-governmental organization.
  • Creative, self-motivated, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to self-manage workload, with good time management skills; in particular, the ability to plan, organize and prioritize multiple projects and respect tight deadlines.
  1. Graphic Designers

The job

  • Production of engaging print and electronic materials, images, and layouts, on the basis of materials provided by GFC, its member groups or affiliated community-based organizations.
  • To participate in creating material that aids development outreach, digital initiatives, and other forms of publications that will be distributed at local, national and international levels.

Main requirements:

  • Professional, creative and flexible graphic designer who is capable of producing attractive and engaging materials, images, and layouts for diverse audiences.
  • Affinity with forests, Indigenous rights, gender justice and feminist approaches and community conservation
  • Experience with working for a multicultural non-governmental organization, with a track record of developing and delivering creative graphic materials for internal and external communications.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of Spanish, Russian, French or another major language is an advantage.
  • Creative, self-motivated, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to self-manage workload, with good time management skills; in particular, the ability to plan, organize and prioritize multiple projects and respect tight deadlines.
  1. Interpreters and translators

The job

  • Translate documents (English-Spanish, English-French, English-Russian), paying careful attention to accuracy and consistency.
  • Provide professional interpretation (English-Spanish, English-French, English-Russian) during multilingual webinars organized virtually over zoom.
  • We occasionally need interpreters or translators in other languages like Portuguese, Chinese, Hindi, Kiswahili or Nepalese as well.

Main requirements:

  • Professional and flexible translator/interpreter with at least two years of experience who is used to working in a multicultural environment, to join a team of freelance language service providers.
  • Fluency in English and another language such as Spanish, French, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, Arabic.
  • Strong internet connection and solid technological skills, including experience using the interpretation function in zoom, experience with terminology management.
  • A good communicator who replies promptly to requests for language services, creative, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Affinity with forests, Indigenous rights, community conservation, gender justice and feminist approaches.
  • Commitment to language justice, ensuring equal participation for all in the language in which they are most comfortable, and ethical principles in language service provision.
  1. Producers of video materials 

The job

  • Production of short videos and motion graphics for a diverse audience, on the basis of photo and video materials provided by GFC member groups or affiliated community-based organizations.
  • To create videos that aid development outreach and digital initiatives, and other forms of campaigns at local, national and international levels.

Main requirements:

  • Professional, creative and flexible video producer who is capable of producing attractive, convincing videos for diverse audiences.
  • Affinity with forests, Indigenous rights, community conservation, gender justice and feminist approaches.
  • Experience with working for a multicultural non-governmental organization, with a track record of developing and delivering creative video materials for internal and external communications.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of Spanish, Russian, French or another major language is an advantage.
  • Creative, self-motivated, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to self-manage workload, with good time management skills; in particular, the ability to plan, organize and prioritize multiple projects and respect tight deadlines.
